πŸ’œπŸ’œ alt text Alt text is a description of a graphic provided as a kindness for the visually impaired who use text readers. It can be as simple as copying-pasting the text of the graphic to the flowing prose of a budding word-artist. Creating alt text with copy/paste is especially important and needed to pass on information like Hotline numbers and planned protests. As an example of descriptive prose, the graphic this was attached to had the following alt text: A cartoon made by @pizzacakecomic patreon.com/pizzacakecomic Left panel: A white man with a brown mustache and beard is wearing a red MAGA hat, faded jeans, an olive green T-shirt with a headshot of an eagle on a blue circle with white stars around the top. He is standing with one hand on his hip and the other closed-fist with his thumb pointed to awards his chest. His speech balloon says: I'm an ALPHA male. I do what I want and I don't care what anyone says! I'm not one of those SHEEPLE Right panel: Trump, in his traditional blue suit and an overly long red tie, leans in from the far right. His speech balloon says: You hate Canada now. The MAGA man clasps and hugs his hands in front of his chest, and looks over his shoulder at Trump with wide eyes and a huge smile. His speech balloon says: Okay Daddy! -------------------- Alt text instructions To write alt text: 1. Add a gif or picture to a post 2. tap (or click) the ALT in the top left corner. 3. Enter the description in the text box that drops down under the graphic. (It is possible to scroll up from the text box while writing to view the graphic for help with spotting details. ) 4. Tap (or click) the blue Save button under the text box. To view alt text: 1. Tap (or click) on the ALT at the bottom right of the graphic - the first few lines of text will show under the graphic. 2. Tap (or click) on those top lines - the text area will expand to show all text. I believe in providing this help for visually challenged readers. But sometimes, despite my best intentions, I would do premature posting without it. Got embarrassed a time or two by other people calling it to my attention. Instructions to disallow posting graphics without alt text. (It works.πŸ‘‡) How to set Alt text options: 1. Tap or click the 3 horizontal parallel lines at the top left if the Home Screen. 2. Select Settings from the Site Menu (at the bottom of the list with a gear wheel icon) 3. Choose Accessibility from the Settings Menu (it should be 4th from the bottom with an icon of a figure inside a circle) 4. Use the slide toggles to the right of both the Alt test heading in the Accessibility Menu 5. Each setting has a slide toggle to the right of "Require alt text before posting" and "Display larger alt text badges" 6. Exit the menu with the left-pointing arrow at the top. I save each one I might use again so I don’t have to do all the research and composing on the spot. https://bsky.app/profile/loveree.bsky.social/post/3m3qy4h6stc22 10/21/2025 This is the 100th Meme alt text I have saved: https://bsky.app/profile/loveree.bsky.social/post/3m2lty4jmj223
