CRISIS, WHAT CRISIS? Daily Astrology Tues 22nd Sept There is a rare and favourable line-up in the sky for the whole of this year: namely, all 3 outer planets flowing well together. The last time this occurred was in 1944, bringing World War II to an end, and birthing the post-War order, a long period of peace and prosperity for the West. And yet we have staggered from one seeming existential crisis to another: it was obliteration through nuclear war until the 90s, when the USSR fell; then it was an environmental crisis, with the threat of being boiled alive by runaway global warming; and now we are being warned that AI could wipe out humanity. Sure, there are genuine crises, that are often necessary for change. But the astrology does not suggest existential crisis. Why do we lurch like this? I don't think it is a plot. I have my own version of Occam's Razor: the herd behaviour explanation is the most likely one. Humans used to live near the edge of survival, and we had a shared sense of the sacred. I think this kept us sane and in shape. We did not suffer from the 'luxury beliefs' of the modern developed world. So the herd manufactures survival issues, they create a point of reference in an uncertain world. They express the anxiety created by a secularised world, with no sense of the sacred to fall back on. This is my theory, at any rate. Either way, I think our task, informed by the astrology, is to refuse to join in with the sense of existential crisis. Somebody has to! And it will give you a peace of mind that the collective does not share. And perhaps some wisdom too.
