Eat yer heart out, Trump: “Canada and the European Union have announced a new “Alliance for the Future,” seeking a hedge against an unpredictable world and less reliance on the United States. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called it the “deepest possible partnership” between Canada and the 27-nation bloc, promising a more integrated market, fewer trade and travel barriers, and openness to other countries joining. “Our societies have been shaken by new storms,” Carney said, citing “the erosion of democratic norms” and “the weaponization of trade.” Carney has sought new partners amid a trade war with the U.S. and concerns about depending on American companies, especially after Elon Musk throttled Starlink over Ukraine this month. The deal includes access to Europe’s supercomputers and a planned merger between Canadian AI company Cohere and Germany’s Aleph Alpha. “We are not waiting for the future of AI to be decided somewhere else by those we don’t know, or by whom we don’t trust,” Carney said. via Aaron Parnas newsletter.
