Acceptance I am proud and delighted that Deal Town Council have given me the honour of representing the good people of Mill Hill Ward as one of their Town Councillors. Of course this has occurred after the sad death of Cllr Ben Bano, a highly-respected and effective Councillor who served the residents of the ward for many years. This is my first Councillor appointment and I am very aware of the trust being placed in me. I was at boarding school in Deal from a very young age and the town has always held a special place in my heart - I can see one of the former boarding houses from my bedroom window. I promise to do whatever I can to promote our beautiful home town and to uphold the reputation of Deal Town Council. I promise to make myself available to ward residents in order to learn of their problems and to discover together ways in which the Council can be of service to them. I promise to attend Council and Committee meetings whenever I am able to, and to ensure that I have prepared and contribute effectively. I promise to adhere to the Nolan principles, which govern the behaviour of all in public office. I promise to try hard to deserve the trust placed in me. Cllr Jonathan Groves, October 2026
