I figured I actually need to do these write-ups, because I literally forget everything. I tested the Lessons v UB Demons matchup like three days ago, and I have no idea how it went. Today, I tested possbily the most important matchup in current Standard. Lessons vs Landfall. Going in, I thought Lessons would be small favorite, but now I think it's the other way around. Obviously lot will depend on the exact decklist configuration of each deck, and sideboarding seems hard from the Landfall side. Shoutout my opponent Leo Almeida who spanked me today, I like his idea of trimming Nursery, and going under! From Lessons side, I value Flashfreeze as the strongest card. The gameplan for Lessons is simple - trade 1 for 1, and eventually win with Acummulated Wisdom. This is easier said than done because sometimes the answer just don't line up well. Or you don't find the Wisdom early enough, and you stabilize at low life total, and to Ba Sing Se. Or your graveyard gets mettled with and Wisdom is just anticipate. Flashfreeze helps with the answers lining up issue as it's clear answer for basically everything. The more I play with Lessons, the more I like the sideboard threats. In this matchup Riddler felt great as a substitute for Wisdom. Ral felt slightly worse, but also acceptable. Wan Shi Tong was weirdly mediocre? It just has such a small impact on the board, but I'd like to play with it more. Monument feels weak against these decks, at least on the draw having it early feels like a mulligan, and I was trimming it down to one copy at some points. I still like Lessons, but in this metagame where Landfall and UG Cub slowly reappear as top decks, it might be time to give it a break. The meta should eventually cycle into anti-Cub decks again. I'll wait for this weekend's results but if my prediction is right and those Green decks will do well this weekend, I'd like to find a deck for the EU RC that beats both of them.
