We’re living through an extraordinary moment in history. I believe we’re witnessing the beginning of the end of capitalism—and with it, the slow, painful but necessary shift toward socialism. For many, this transition will be difficult. But it’s also an opportunity—an opening for something better. You, Heather, have a singular opportunity to provide the structure under which the left in Canada can finally come together. Right now, we are fragmented—splintered into isolated voices shouting into the void. But with the right leadership, with the right messaging, I truly believe the left can unify into something powerful, something consequential. What I call the revolution may not look like marches in the streets—at least not yet—but it will absolutely require bold voices and courageous action. And I believe you're one of the few with the credibility and conviction to lead it. Here’s the brutal truth: the perception out there is that the NDP has become irrelevant. People believe the party is more interested in staying close to power than speaking truth to it. Supporting the Liberal government with confidence and supply—while that government continues to betray workers and undermine the left—sends a very clear message: that the NDP is more concerned with proximity to influence than with actual change. As a leftist, I look at that and think, what the hell? Why should I support a party that props up the very government that actively dismisses and disrespects us? That’s not just my opinion—it’s a perception I hear from many others. And it's damaging. If the NDP continues down this path, maybe it’s time to consider a split—let the true socialists stay and rebuild something real, while the rest join the Liberals, where they clearly seem more comfortable. Harsh? Maybe. But necessary. That said, I don’t see you as one of those Liberals-in-waiting. I see you as a true socialist. A representative of actual people, actual workers. And I believe you could be the one to help build a party grounded in real leftist values. But you’ll need the right people around you—people who understand how much messaging matters. What we say, how we say it, our tone, our voice—these things matter deeply. They’re going to be fundamental to creating a truly unified, effective left in Canada. Right now, the right dominates the narrative. They’ve held power for decades, not because they offer real solutions, but because they understand how to communicate. They unify around simple, emotionally resonant messages—usually based on fear. They speak directly to people’s insecurities, then offer comforting (if dishonest) answers. They appeal to emotion first, and it works. The left can’t—and shouldn’t—stoop to fearmongering. But we can learn from the right’s success with messaging. We can blend emotional and logical appeals to speak directly to the concerns of working people: fears about the future, the cost of living, inequality, climate crisis, war, automation, and the role of globalization and immigration. We must answer these concerns with compassion, truth, and a clear vision for a just future. And the truth is, right now, the NDP isn't doing that. Again, the perception is that the party is drifting toward the center to court voters, assuming it already has the left locked down. But that’s not how this works. You can’t take the left for granted while trying to become more palatable to centrists. That strategy waters down the party’s identity—and alienates its base. The NDP needs to reclaim its position as the party of workers. This is a class issue. It always has been. And the messaging needs to reflect that—clearly and unapologetically. This is the time to make it about the working class versus the capitalist class. To speak in language that resonates with workers. To say, We are the party of the left. We are the party of the workers. And to mean it. Because I believe this is a turning point. Capitalism, in my view, has reached the end of its cycle. Humanity can’t move forward clinging to an outdated, individualist system that actively undermines collective progress. Our future isn’t capitalist individualism—it’s socialist collectivism. That’s the next stage in human social evolution. Whether we’re talking about saving the planet or eventually becoming a spacefaring species, we’ll only get there together. The NDP could be the party that helps usher in this future. But right now, it’s failing—spectacularly. And I believe you’re one of the few people who can help turn that around. We need a leader who can rebuild the NDP as a true workers’ party. Someone who can communicate a compelling, values-driven vision of the future—one that inspires, unites, and empowers. Someone who can resist the petty bickering and purity tests that too often divide the left. Someone who can bring us together, not in a fragile coalition, but in a true movement. I want to see that happen. I want to see a party that reflects the values I was drawn to when I first supported the NDP—back in Grade 4, when I did a school project on Gary Doer. I want to see a party I can be proud to support again. And I believe you could be the one to lead it.
