Dear Senator Duckworth, We are alarmed by the prospect of war with Iran, and strongly oppose the United States becoming involved. We cannot risk the devastating human and economic cost of another never-ending war in the Middle East. We need peace and diplomacy, not bombs and bloodshed. We do not want to enter Netanyahu’s war with Iran. American involvement would not only put our troops into harm's way, but risk escalating an already volatile situation into all-out regional conflict. Unfortunately, Trump is engaging in wildly dangerous provocations in the press and on social media. We know we cannot trust this would-be authoritarian to diplomatically de-escalate this conflict and save lives. Our Constitution is clear: Only Congress has the power to declare war. Yet, administrations too often bypass this fundamental check, plunging us into conflicts that cost countless lives, drain our resources, and destabilize entire regions. We cannot allow this to happen again. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) has introduced a War Powers Resolution. This means he can fast-track an up or down vote on preventing US military involvement in war with Iran. A successful vote could end up limiting involvement–and even a strong showing sends a clear pro-peace message. Please oppose war with Iran, and sign on to Senator Kaine’s War Powers Resolution. Sincerely, Joan & David Piekarczyk
