Dear Senator Durbin Hi, my name is David Piekarczyk, and I’m a constituent from Sleepy Hollow. 60118. I am calling because I want your office to take action against Trump’s purge of our military. This is authoritarian, and it’s dangerous. At the very least I am asking you to vote no on General Caine and all Trump’s picks to replace the officers he’s fired, and to put holds on their nominations. We need to have as much debate as possible, and senators need to use this opportunity to ring the alarm about the threat to our military. Can we count on you to do that? What are you going to do in response? This was an extraordinary action by Trump, and I’m concerned we’re not seeing an extraordinary response by the rest of government. They’re getting rid of leaders who are committed to the Constitution and the rule of law and replacing them with people whose main qualification is  they’re loyal to Trump personally. That’s the sort of thing dictators do. This purge also makes us weaker and less safe. They’re sending a message that leaders who aren’t white men aren’t welcome. Instead of the best and most qualified, they’re promoting whoever tells them what they want to hear. That will drive good people away from our military and encourage poor judgement and dishonesty from those who stay. Can I count on your office to take this seriously?
