Special Advisory 8: Austen strongest winds moving onshore of France and will spread over the Channel Islands in the hour or two. The recent wind observations have indicated severe gale force gusts are on going along with hurricane forced along the extreme north-western portion of France. South-western England is currently experiencing the calmer inner core of Austen however the strongest winds expected here are still to arrive and will arrive in a couple of hours time. The system is continuing to weaken during this time. The low is continuing to degrade in presentation as expected. But it must be stressed the system may look much more disorganised. It will and is still packing a nasty punch. An ascending ASCAT pass revealed surface winds of 50-60 kts on the west to southwest side of the system. This indicates that the system is likely still capable of gusts of 100 mph in some locations more likely over open water or higher terrain. However further weakening is expected and peak gusts will be set at the lower end of the estimates and remain held at 90 mph. Observations during this time will be critical for intermediate advisories and special advisories that may be issued. Large waves will also be effecting France and southern portions of England, as well as the rain shield that has continued to progress over the UK and Rep of Ireland. The centre is also noticeably becoming rain filled so this will make the worst wind impacts even more dangerous. For more information please see official weather warnings and advice from main meteorological organisation. **DISCLAIMER MLCC IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH MET OFFICE OR ANY OFFICIAL METORLOGICAL ORGANISATION** INT ... 80 KTS ... 90 MPH
