Mid latitude cyclone approaching Iceland. Vestmannaeyjar observation recorded a sustained wind of 84 mph. Although this is at 387ft elevation. Reduction factor applied this would indicate sea level winds are 70-75 Mph. But the peak gust at at the observation would range from 109 mph to 117 mph. Higher end estimate would put that gust range even higher at 129 mph. However the system is beginning to spread extremely dangerous and life threatening conditions to Iceland and this will persist through the remainder of today. Power outages and structural damage is possible. Travel disruption is also expected due to heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions. For Official information visit Icelandic met office.
