“Why did you come here? I’ve searched this wreck all night for reasons why landfolk like yourselves would come here. But dead men do not answer me, and if you do not, then you are as good to me as any of them.” She raised herself above him more, or Oliver merely slunk lower down on his driftwood to maximize the distance between them. “Madam. I, in all honesty, I was going to ask what you were doing here. This is–well I’m no expert in your people–but this part of the sea is no longer safe. There is nothing but death here, I assure you.” Oliver had no intention of protecting the captain, and had no need to protect the other men anymore. Even his small sense of self-preservation that was left felt like he should not deserve her pity, but in the end he held his tongue as a point of honour. He should have kept it shut before too, and now this is what had happened. He was doing her a favour. Clearly she did not see it not see it that way, as his feeble attempts at obfuscation were met with her clawed hand around his throat.
