“ Pennsylvania health officials are warning of a rise in measles among pregnant women and in rare cases of congenital measles in newborns. The state says 66 pregnant women have been infected since its outbreak began in April, raising the risk of miscarriage, early labor, and low birth weight. Doctors say at least six babies have been born with measles, two of whom ended up in intensive care with pneumonia, and at least one baby has died. Congenital measles was rare even before vaccines, because most women had been infected as children, and is now re-emerging as vaccination rates fall. The U.S. has recorded more than 4,400 measles cases this year, including nearly 1,300 in Pennsylvania. Officials urge women to get vaccinated before becoming pregnant, since the vaccine can’t be given during pregnancy.”. From Aaron Parnas newsletter
